INstallation of LatHunden International

LatHunden International is now available on the website as four downloadable files. There is one file containing the main program in English with a size of about 40 Mb. The three other files all have a size of about 13.5 Mb and are only necessary if one wishes to toggle the program language between English and Swedish. To do so it is necessary to download both of the language files and the Language Converter file. The Language Converter is a stand alone program. LatHunden MUST not be running when the Converter is used to shift between languages.

Only users with broadband are recommended to try to download the files. Those who may not be able to download the files may get them all as a single file on CD for a fee, including shipping and taxes, of 250:- SEK. Please write to pererik.sundgren@genetica.se . All users with previous licenses to LatHunden 8.x.x may use the international version free of extra charges. The former license codes are valid.

All downloadable  program files on the Genetica site are self expanding WinRar archive files named "LatHunden", "Converter", "English" and "Swedish" and all with the icon of a border terrier. It is recommended that they are all downloaded and saved on the computer before the final installation which is started by simply double clicking on the files and then following the written instructions. All files in the WinRar archives are installed in the main folder "LatHunden 2006" and appropriate subfolders on the C-disk. There might be a warning to download the files since they are executable files of the type ".exe". It is also possible that the files will not be accepted at all due to security settings in the web browser. In such cases it will be necessary to temporarily change the security setting to download the program files. 

Previously installed program files excluding the data file and its resource file should be erased before installing the new version the first time. Find the data file in the main folder "LatHunden 2006" on the C-disk, with the label "LatHunden_06.4DD" and its small resource file with the label "LatHunden_06.rsr. The two files are of the type "4D Datafile" and "Data resource file" when the content of the folder is displayed as a detailed list. Copy  these two files and store them outside the "LatHunden  2006" folder. Then go to the program group LatHunden 2006 on the Start menu and run Uninstall. Erase remaining parts of the folder "LatHunden 2006". Then install the new files as described above and finally copy your previously stored data files into the new "LatHunden 2006" folder and let them replace the empty data files with identical names.

It is necessary to have both the English and Swedish files installed to get the converter program to toggle between the two languages. The two language files contain parts of the main program necessary to read Lathunden correctly in either of the languages. When  the Converter program is used it will replace files in the main program with corresponding files from either of the two language folders installed. This will however be done only if LatHunden is NOT running when the Converter program is used. Opened files in LatHunden cannot be replaced.

After the first download of the main file "LatHunden" it is only necessary to upgrade the language files to make the program all up to date. It is however necessary to run the Language Converter program to finish the updating also in case one is only interested in running the English version.

Most, but not all texts are in English when the program is running in English mode. All text documents supplied by SKK are not translated into English although most of the files needed to navigate properly in LatHunden are now translated. The MH (MD) protocol has been translated and will shift language as decided when using the Converter program. The same is true for the "on-line" manual found as a menu help file as soon as one is working with any of the registers in LatHunden.

Most of the layouts belonging to the special breed registers for hunting dogs are not translated in the present version of LatHunden.

Please do not hesitate to report errors, misspelling or other problems. It is more than one year full time work by one programmer behind all the changes and it is practically impossible to get it all free of mistakes all at once.
